There was lots of excitement at Auroa School after school today. Scott Donaldson tried to cross the Tasman in July but quit just 74km off the Taranaki Coast. He suffered head and chest injuries, and the weather conditions deteriorated. His kayak was abandoned and had been lost since. Scott's kayak was located this afternoon just down the road from our school. We were very lucky to have the kayak brought to our school for a visit. We thought it was very small to have lived in! Here are some photos.

We have now all completed at least one layer of paper mache. We have learnt lots already from our trial and errors in making these money banks. Last week we had a bit of trouble with losing our legs and ears. If we make animal money banks again we will use more tape to secure our body parts before we start our paper mache. We will also make sure we don't use too much glue. We are looking forward to more paper mache tomorrow afternoon!

We have been very busy finishing off the shell for our money banks. We now all have a face, ears and legs. We have spent a lot of time ripping up paper and newspaper so we can begin our paper mache tomorrow. We can't wait to start this!

To Miss Davidson
This is my calf called Bow. She is the special calf I have picked for school calf and lamb day. She loves to lick me. Bow is a little jersey and she needs to grow a bit for her cover to fit her properly. Her cover is blue and warm. Bow's tag number on her ear is 4. She really, really loves milk.
I was very impressed with this email I just received from Jayda. What a fantastic description of your calf Jayda! She is very cute. I am looking forward to meeting her at calf and lamb day. Kap Pai Jayda!

We have been learning to count money in Star Seven. This means once we finish our money banks and start saving, we will be able to count how much money we have in total. We have been using our basic facts strategies and knowledge to help us. We have enjoyed using the following app to count money and buy various items. If you would like to be using this app at home you can find it by searching 'Kids Count Money NZ'. It does however have a small cost. I have attached a picture below of the icon that should appear.

We loved doing our electives last term. Harriet was in the sewing elective with Mrs Wisnewski. Harriet has shown a real passion for sewing. We were very impressed at news share when Harriet shared this teddy she had sewn. You are very good at sewing Harriet!

Miss Davidson was very lucky to have both Mr Spice and Mr Chittenden help her on Friday to create this video. Caridy and I both learnt a lot. Caridy took the photo of the toaster on her own, she typed up her set of instructions, drew a picture of a toaster, and then I recorded her saying the instructions. Great, clear instructions Caridy. Tino Pai!

We have just begun the planning process for our money banks. We have now all decided on one animal that we would like to make. We used pic collage to collate pictures that we found in books and on the web. This will help us when we draw the plan for our money bank.
