This week we did a science experiment on soaking an egg in vinegar.
The student's hypothesis was that it may explode, it may change colour or a chicken may be inside.
What happened: when you submerge an egg in vinegar, the shell dissolves. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which breaks apart the solid calcium carbonate crystals that make up the eggshell into their calcium and carbonate parts.
